Number Games
Becca asked to do reading eggs today, then when we were finished, she wasn’t ready to be done and wanted to do “more school”, so I got out the construction paper and we did our next letter craft – the letter C. These letters are more a phonics review for us than an introduction to the letters, but for kids who aren’t as familiar with the names of the letters, it would be a great introduction craft. Here is where we are getting our letter craft ideas.
C says “kah”, Crab starts with the “kah” sound, so it starts with letter C, see?
Then I got out our butterfly numbers and we played for probably a half hour or longer with a variety of number games. I was quick to change up the activity and keep her moving as much as possible. When she showed that she was losing interest in one thing I would switch to another. The activity ended in play dough after little sister dumped the entire basket of play dough toys on the floor and sat crying in the middle of it all. Oh how fun the preschool age is!
This was putting the numbers in order – she marched and jumped and ran and hopped and walked and danced and even vacuumed her way up and down the row counting each time in order to figure out what number came next. The best part? She came up with all the actions on her own, all I did was sit and watch!
This one was “bring me the number…”
This one I put the numbers in order in a circle and she had to go stand on whatever number I said.
This was the last one – I asked her to bring me one number at a time and then bring me that same number of “things”. We got through number 1, 5 and 3 before her sister dumped the basked of play dough and then it was a rush to pick all the numbers up as fast as possible to go play with play dough. (Just for the record, when the play dough ended she cleaned up and ran around the dining room, rolling the play dough containers past her sister, laughing hysterically!)
